Boston Calling Spring 2015

I was one of the lucky ones who attended the second day of Boston Calling this year (May 23). The weather was beautiful, the crowd was energetic and the bands had the giant crowd dancing, singing and rocking out.

Boston Calling Spring 2015

I enjoyed the entire Lineup, but Run the Jewels blew the crowd away. They came out blasting We are the Champions and then danced and rapped through their whole set. They were the first band of the day to get the whole crowd moving and gathered around the same stage.

My most anticipated moment was Gerard Way taking the the stage. I was right up front, so I saw every move he made with my eagle eyes. The young crowd wore an even mix of My Chemical Romance shirts and the now solo Gerard Way shirts. The dads (who brought their young teens to see this momentous event) took a step back and let the crowd fill in the spaces. His set was loud, and powerful and the even the people playing ping pong and giant Jenga were beckoned to the stage. His normally colorful hair was pitch black and his eyes were covered with dark sunglasses. To be fair, it was really sunny and everyone had on dark sunglasses. He took time out from his set to ask the crowd to support transgender friends, and broke into a sweet song about taking them out for coffee. He talked about mental health disorders, his own battle, and said "just find someone to talk to. It's no big". It was a great set, and I am happy I had the chance to be part of it.

Run the Jewels

The entire day was so much fun. We heard a little bit of all kinds of music. We listened to Krill, Tove Lo, DMA's, Marina and the Diamonds, MO, Ben Harper and My Morning Jacket. The fall lineup is up, and it looks awesome. Walk the Moon, Nate Ruess and Hozier are sure to attract a young crowd, but there will be plenty for all.
