The Top 10 Bands To Get You Through The Rest of The Year

September 3, 2016

Being an up and coming music photographer means going to local shows, and meeting some great people. Most of those shows are put on by unsigned bands that are tearing up the air waves. I've put together the best bands (in no particular order or ranking) that I have noticed in the past year. Enjoy!

  1. In Finding Way is a 5 piece rock/post-hardcore band out of Dover, Delaware. With a wide range of musical backgrounds and inspirations, the band aims to deliver a sound unique to themselves. Look out for the EP debut "A Sense of Control" later this year." Check out the song "Trusting Hands" here.

  2. Spare Me Graceful is a post-hardcore/pop punk band from Hollywood, CA. Formed in 2013 by Teijo Damude (lead vocals/guitar) and Kurt Torres (screams/guitar) the band was approached to be produced/engineered by Mike Hart, former Assistant Engineer to John Feldmann. After releasing 2 songs "Tangled" and "With Or Against Us" with Mike Hart, the band recruited Tommy Rockoff on drums and continued to write what would be their debut EP. Shortly after Tommy Rockoff joined, through mutual friends the band met Morgan Kibler who would then become their bass player and Stefo Arauz on synth/keyboards. With a full lineup, the band finished recording and released their EP "Six Feet Beneath The Waves" on July 8th 2016 which is available on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play. Check out the song "Moving Forward (To The Person I Used To Be)" here.

  3. Our Vintage Film started in college (Belmont University in Nashville) on spring break of 2010 in Destin, FL. The band is a Rock Pop duo/band that blends SoCal rock, symphonic strings, and reverse instrumental riffs to take you to a place of nostalgia - as if your greatest memories were being played back on a vintage 8mm camera. Self produced and proudly indie from the heart of the "New Nashville" alternative rock scene, OVF aims to spark listeners with deeper lyrical concepts. From being struck by a female aura in their new single "Tidal Waves" to seeing the cosmos in her eye in "Don't Let Go," OVF's in-depth music revitalizes your innermost and deepest level of subconscious thoughts. They are hoping to put together a southeast tour in Febuary then hopefully getting out west to LA. Also, keep an eye out for a new EP coming soon! Check out the song “Tidal Waves” here.

  4. Cruel Miracle is a female fronted, Boston based Rock band that formed in September of 2014. They all met in Boston by different circumstances (good thing they met)... No one knew each other from before, but they turned out to be one of the most talented unsigned bands out there. Their song "get some" was featured on the new radio mod for FALLOUT 4 that Jet Fuel put together. You can buy their new album "Manifesto" on iTunes or wherever you get your music from! Check out their highly successful song “Get Some” here.

  5. SPC is a band that consists of 3 brothers who wanted to start a band that would make punk rock and just rock and roll and hardcore a lot bigger. It started when they made their first song, She, and it went on from there. The first show that they did was at Simons 677 with Michale Graves. They had a couple of songs played on a small radio station and they've been getting noticed through social media and local shows. SPC won battle of the bands which was their first battle of the bands ever! They played with Vanna and made new friends from different bands along the way. Check out their song “She” here.

  6. Another One Down formed in 2014 and has been putting a fun new twist on pop punk, fusing it's known styles with hardcore attributes. The band has gained a substantial following throughout their local scene and beyond. Acts they have shared the stage with include Vanna, The Ataris, Lions Lions, Trophy Wives, and iamdynamite. The band released their debut EP entitled "Take On The World" on December 11th, 2015. The EP is available at most music selling services. Check out their song “Anchored Down” here.

  7. Sic Vita is an emo/alternative rock band from southeastern MA. They started playing in 2012 and released our debut EP "History" in 2013.  In 2015, after being selected by Ernie Ball in their annual Battle of the Bands, they were featured on the Massachusetts date of the Vans Warped Tour. Since then they have toured up the Eastern coast and into the Midwest, had the music video for their song "Northern Whispers (It's Just Another Scene)" premiere in Journeys stores worldwide, and now Sic Vita are writing a whole new batch of music.  You can check out the video for "Northern Whispers" (directed and produced by Sam Link [Sleeping With Sirens, Memphis May Fire, Crown The Empire]) here.

  8. High Hopes was formed in the summer of 2013, and is currently made up of 5 members. Bringing a combination of modern and early pop punk, featuring fast paced drums, catchy guitar riffs, and cutting vocals, and they hope to bring a new spin on a classic 90s/2000s genre. They even go to perform on Warped Tour in 2014! Check out the song and video for “Collapse” here.  Also, check out their new album "Plain to See" here.

  9. Safeguard is a five-piece pop-punk band based out of Salem, New Hampshire. If you're a fan of Four Year Strong, New Found Glory, and ROAM, this is a band for you. They released their first EP "Pallet Town" this past spring. The band is currently in the studio recording their second EP. So keep an eye out for that soon! Check out their single "Like the Ancient Hawaiians Used to Say" here.

  10. Now I See is a newcomer, hard rock outfit from Russia. After a great start on the local scene with few performances in the local events (including some shows with such bands as Betraying The Martyrs and Adept), the band has decided to take a big step forward and build their own American Dream. Late 2014, after recording some groundbreaking demos, Now I See were invited to work on their debut full-length record with the producer Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, Attila, Crown The Empire etc.) on very special conditions as a promising, potentially breakthrough upcoming artist. One of the songs off the record includes a guest appearance of Trevor Wentworth from Our Last Night. Earlier this month, the band put out a new music video for the song "Decisions" which you can check out here.
