I am so excited to share my interview with 19 year old Kai Salmon of Loveovernite!. Kai is from Ontario, Canada. For a young guy, Kai already has quite a few years of experience under his belt. He started writing, recording and producing music at the age of nine, and taught himself how to play the piano and guitar. He also went to an arts-focused high school where he concentrated on vocal training, and played in a few bands. At 19, Kai knows what he wants to do and is hard at work on his solo project - Loveovernite!

Q: How did you get into this career, and what personal advice would you give someone wanting to pursue this career?
Kai: I got into music fooling around with a little program that I found online when I was 9. It used to be a hobby and then it became an outlet for me. My advice to anyone wanting to pursue music is to never doubt yourself and always stay positive. It's a hard lifestyle but it's doable with hard work. :)
Q: You said you got into music when you were 9, what was your first instrument you learned how to play? You mainly do acoustic work, was it always that way?
Kai: The first instrument I picked up was piano. Simply because there was a keyboard laying around in my house and it's all I had to start off, I learned that when I was 12 and then picked up a guitar at 14 and never looked back haha I've been solo acoustic ever since then. I'm 19 now. :)
Q: Do you have any professional music education in your background, or was it all self taught?
Kai: Everything was self taught in the early years. I tried vocal and piano lessons and I quit that after two weeks, I felt better learning things at my own pace. But I also went to a high school for the arts and was a vocal major there so I have a little bit of vocal training under my belt.
Q: What are your goals for the year? Any shows?
Kai: I really hope to head on a U.S. Tour during the summertime. That is a main goal, but mostly just play as many shows as I can and put out as much music as I can. :)
Q: Any plans for an album soon? You do so many covers, have you thought of putting them together on an album?
Kai: Yeah I'll be releasing a 6 song EP in June, all originals and then hopefully a full length by the end of the year :)
Last one: For writing all original songs, what usually inspires you for songwriting?
Kai: Usually just my experiences or my surroundings. All of my songs are about things that have happened to me, so just inspired by my emotions I guess :)
Thank you, Loveovernite! I appreciate you taking the time to answer all of my questions!
